DOCTOR WHO – THE GREATEST SHOW IN THE GALAXY
Rating: Not Rated
Studio: BBC
MSRP: $24.98 but Amazon has it for $19.94.
Running Time: 96 minutes
What’s Going On?
Deciding to be awful, the Doctor takes his companion Ace to a Psychic(!) Circus, because regular circuses aren’t scary enough on the planet Segonax. Upon their arrival, Ace and the Doctor realize, that all is not well in the circus. Apart from it being a circus and generally horrifying, bad things are happening to the performers there, all because of the Chief Clown. Can Ace overcome her fear and can the Seventh Doctor stop mistreating his companion?
Who’s In It:
Sylvester McCoy stars as the Doctor and Sophie Aldred stars as Ace. All of my nightmares also co-star.
If You Like…:
Being scared of clowns, relate to Chuckie Finster or feel the need to go back into therapy, then check this out.
Special Features:
There’s a commentary with Sophie Aldred, actress Jessica Martin, who plays Mags, Christopher Guard, who plays Bellboy, as well as writer Stephen Wyatt, script editor Andrew Cartmel and composer Mark Ayres.
There’s a half our making of special feature called The Show Must Go On, deleted and extended scenes and a handy dandy little pop up trivia track.
The Technical Gist
It all sounds and looks fairly good. The Doctor Who restoration team is on it.
The Verdict
While I would never recommend this ever because I don’t want you, dear reader, to be scarred forever by the utterly creepy clowns, but after I took some Xanax, the story was kind of cool, and I wouldn’t mind Matt Smith revisiting this planet in the current iteration of Who. QUEUE IT.
