This Week’s Big Releases
INDIANA JONES: THE COMPLETE ADVENTURES
Synopsis: All of the movies in the Indy franchise, now on blu-ray.
Tomatometer Rating: RAIDERS (94%, TEMPLE OF DOOM (85%), LAST CRUSADE (89%, CRYSTAL SKULL (77%)
Special Features: There’s so much here I can’t fit it all in this little space, but every movie has it’s own special features, many of which are new to this set. The biggest treat of all will be seeing Indy in a restored high definition transfer for the first time.
Deals: Amazon and Best Buy have the set for $64.99.
Buy/Queue/Skip: Really? These are some of the greatest movies of all time – except for that other one. BUY IT.
THE CABIN IN THE WOODS
Synopsis: It’s anything but your standard horror movie. You’ll enjoy this movie more knowing as little about it as possible.
Tomatometer Rating: 90%
Special Features: There’s a making-of featurette, looks at the special effects and visual effects, and a commentary with Joss Whedon and Director Drew Goddard.
Deals: Amazon and Best Buy have the blu-ray combo pack for $19.99.
Buy/Queue/Skip: While I wasn’t exactly sold on the movie to start with, the blu-ray, which I’ll be reviewing this week, has some great special features and the film itself benefits from multiple viewings. BUY IT. Here’s Mel’s review and our Critic’s Review Roundup.
Also Available This Week
The latest from the Duplass Brothers DO-DECA-PENTATHLON, is now available. Courtney was a fan. You can also check out the old people having fun in India flickTHE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, which Courtney also liked.
Oscar nominee CHICO & RITA is available, and if that doesn’t get your nethers tingling, then HYSTERIA hopefully will, though Courtney didn’t find it that stimulating.
Concert film KATY PERRY: PART OF ME is available in 2 and 3D, but I think I know that y’all want to see all parts of Katy Perry in 3D. Ya nasty.
In TV MODERN FAMILY: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON is available.
Manny’s Pick
My pick this week is Sylvester Stallone’s JUDGE DREDD, which is being released on blu-ray this week. I want you to check it out not because it’s good – it’s not, but because DREDD, the remake with Karl Urban that releases at the end of this week is EXCELLENT and you can see a great adaptation of a great comic. You’ll need something to get the taste of this movie out of your mouth anyway. Check out my thoughts on the film from Comic Con!.
See you next week!
