We saw the poster premiere earlier this week, and now Warner Brothers has released the (kinda bonkers) trailer for film based on the young adult novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. Magic! Mystery! Melancholy! These are the things teens love.
A supernatural love story set in the South, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.
I dunno, guys; this feels vaguely TWILIGHT-y. A kid in a small town falls for the most different person in school – one with an interesting and mysterious family. I mean, am I right?! The fact that Richard LaGravenese (who was nominated for an Oscar for writing THE FISHER KING) is involved (in both director and screenwriter roles) should help to calm my fears that this is more than a superficial knock-off of substandard “literature.” Could this be another HARRY POTTER-esque franchise/money train for Warner Brothers? Take a look at the trailer below and share your thoughts.
BEAUTIFUL CREATURES opens on February 13.
