Can you survive without Jon Stewart?
Well, you kind of have to. The DAILY SHOW host will be stepping away from the desk for twelve weeks this summer so he can go off and direct a feature film adaptation of the book Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival. The true story is about Maziar Bahari, a reporter who went to Iran to cover the 2009 presidential election but ended up being detained and interrogated in prison for 118 days. No, this will not be a comedy.
The movie, which Stewart quietly put together through his Busboy Productions, will be called ROSEWATER.
So what will happen to THE DAILY SHOW in Stewart’s absence? Have no fear, the program is in good hands. DAILY SHOW reporter John Oliver will step up and host the show while the boss is away. Oliver is one of the most popular correspondents on the show and will surely do a good job. And who knows, maybe he’s warming up to take over the series for when Stewart eventually steps down full time. Stewart won’t be host forever.
Or maybe he can be! If he’s able to juggle both THE DAILY SHOW and other pet projects, why can’t Jon stick around longer than expected? Why can’t he do this for the rest of his career? Sounds good to me!
What’s that? Oh, it’s his decision and not mine? Right. Dang.
