Lately I have been asked if the networks have a set time as to when they might announce renewals and cancellations for the 2013-’14 primetime TV season.
Of course, not everything is announced all at once. Updates trickle out as time marches on. For example, Fox put BEN AND KATE out with the curbside recycling some time ago. CBS revealed this morning that a host of series including 2 BROKE GIRLS, ELEMENTARY, MIKE & MOLLY, THE MENTALIST and BLUE BLOODS were renewed for next season.
The calendar listed below (courtesy: TVbythenumbers) depicts the broadcast upfront events. These are the drop-dead (no pun intended) dates for the networks to announce their fall schedules. In short, you will know by these dates if your favorite series is returning or regulated to the garbage can of broadcast TV history.
2013 Broadcast Network Upfront Meetings
|May 13, 2013||NBC||New York||Morning|
|May 13, 2013||FOX||New York||Afternoon|
|May 14, 2013||Univision||New York||Morning|
|May 14, 2013||ABC||New York||Afternoon|
|May 15, 2013||CBS||New York||Afternoon|
|May 16, 2013||The CW||New York||Morning|
Because we live in the “Age of the Internet”, chances are good that you might know the status of your particular show long before the dates listed above.
Cable networks have similar upfront events where they might announce some renewals and cancellations during the March-May period. However this isn’t where entire schedules are declared unlike the broadcast networks.
